PIERROT IN THE AIR HORN - ACT II: LARYNX
SINGLE CHANNEL VIDEO PROJECTION - ACT I of III
& INSTALLATION (OBJECTS + WORKS ON PAPER)
2023
Pierrot in the Air Horn is a project composed in three discrete acts that deals with the ancient notion of the vital breath and the production of utterance.
Act II: Larynx is an interactive sound sculpture constructed while in residence with the FRAC des Pays de la Loire in Nantes, Frances in the fall of 2024. This approximately four meter long sculpture is composed of large, used objects sourced from around the regions, all pierced by a drainage tube. Based on the technology of a pipe organ, the tube emits a low frequency tone that is activated by the viewer’s proximity. The objects index the local area and symbolically operate like notes on a scale. Like our throat that pierces our body so we can breath and create utterance, the tube passes through these discarded, familiar bodies and transforms wind into tone, animating their material. Act II takes up the air horn’s valve chamber – aka the larynx.
